Review: “Becoming” by Michelle Obama

Quick review for a progressive read. I listened to all of over 19 hours of Michelle Obama’s autobiography “Becoming” via audiobook – it was a wonderful listen as narrated by the author. Chronicling her experiences as a child growing up with family and friends, the narrative starts as an intimate portrait of the First Lady’s influences towards her education and the path she would eventually take through her professional career. It then proceeds to not how she met President Barack Obama and the road they both traveled from his rise as a community organizer, to the Senate, and then to the Presidency. There are definitely many self reflective moments and astute observations of the social climate around her life, and I appreciated the humor, grace, and empathetic voice she has throughout this book. I really enjoyed it and am glad to have this as a part of my personal library.

Overall score: 4/5 stars.
